The Son of God became the Son of Man in order to make the children of men children of God. The Savior taught us to love one another. He brings peace to the earth.
Metropolitan Epifaniy, head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, emphasized this in his greeting on the occasion of Christmas according to the New Julian calendar.
“I heartily congratulate our brothers and sisters from other Local Orthodox Churches, Christians of the Latin rite, as well as all Ukrainians who are celebrating Christmas today, with this bright and joyful holiday!
The Son of God became the Son of Man in order to make the children of men children of God. The Savior taught us to love one another. He brings peace to the earth. But, unfortunately, the sin of fratricide and human hatred still exists. On our land, due to the actions of the aggressor, blood is being shed again. But the event of the Nativity of Christ assures us that light always wins over darkness. The born Son of God told humanity that earthly life is a stepping stone to eternal life. And it helps us overcome life’s challenges and trials, striving for victory over evil, good and just peace.
It is for this reason that we offer our special prayers today to the One who brings people peace. Inner peace and outer peace are the most precious and valuable possessions of people on earth, which all conscious people, God’s children, strive for. The event of Christmas unites people all over the world in these bright aspirations. May the Lord strengthen all of us in good mental and physical health and give us His gracious help in good deeds, for the victory over evil!”
