The Church of the Exaltation of the Cross in the village of Ostapye, in the Reshetyliv community, has changed jurisdiction, moving to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Previously, the community was part of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate.
On August 27, Father Pavlo, a deacon of the Shishatsky district, broke the news to the Suspilne public broadcaster.
The decision to transition to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine was made by the religious community of the village of Ostapye on August 26.
“After the people in the village of Ostapye buried the fallen soldier, people turned to me with a request for advice, on how it would be right and what would they need to do in order to come under the authority of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and pray for our soldiers in Ukrainian,” says Father Pavlo.
To this end, believers convened a meeting, which was attended by 64 people. Three of them abstained. From now on, the church will be subordinated to the Poltava Diocese of the OCU, Father Pavlo said.
According to the cleric, the priest of the UOC MP, who previously served in the church, was also at the meeting. He chose to refuse to join the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
As Father Pavlo said, on August 28, the first service in Ukrainian as part of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine will be held in the Church of the Exaltation of the Cross.
