Since a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, more than 400 church communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate have joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
This was announced on the air of the national telethon by the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, TSN reports.
“If we look from the time of the Unification Council and the receipt of the Tomos, today it’s more than 1,000 communities, but in the last three months about 400 new parishes of the Moscow Patriarchate have joined the Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy. At the onset of the war there was a certain moral shift.
The head of the OCU stressed that the unity of Ukrainians has manifested itself in the spiritual field as well.
“The world has believed that we can defeat the aggressor, but in the spiritual field we also see some progress in the unity of Orthodox Ukrainians in a single local Ukrainian Orthodox Church, because all Ukrainians must unite during the war,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
