Russia comes up with yet another absurd justification for war against Ukraine

Russia’s Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev claimed Russia’s war in Ukraine had thwarted Western plans to establish a puppet regime in Russia.

Patrushev’s words were quoted by Ukrayinska Pravda with reference to the Russian media.

“The West seeks to create conditions for the establishment of a Western-controlled regime in Russia, as has already been done in Ukraine and a number of other countries. A special military operation thwarted these plans,” the secretary of the Russian Security Council said, voicing yet another piece of Russian propaganda nonsense.

“We were forced to resort to this measure as a pre-emptive step because the level of threats to national security and neglect of our country’s interests reached a level that threatened Russia’s statehood and its very existence,” he added.

Patrushev did not specify how Ukraine allegedly threatened Russia’s existence prior to the war.

On May 9 this year, the president of the aggressor power, Vladimir Putin, also stated that Russia allegedly had no choice but to attack Ukraine. He claimed that, had there been at least one chance to “solve the Donbas problem peacefully”, the Russians would have grasped it.
