Blasts in Transnistria “planned provocation” by Russian special services – intelligence

The explosions in the headquarters of the so-called Ministry of State Security of unrecognized Transnistria, which occurred on April 25, are a provocation organized by the Federal Security Service of Russia, aimed to sow panic and anti-Ukrainian sentiment.

This was stated by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Intelligence obtained a copy of a letter from the secretary of the State Commission for Emergency Situations of the Transnistrian Autonomous Republic, Vadym Shmalenko, to the head of the Kamensky district, Volodymyr Bychkov, dated April 22. The letter referred to the urgent drafting of a report on the availability and location of the “protected point of the city’s civil defense.”

In the absence of such a site, the question of its urgent creation was raised. According to intelligence, three days before the explosion, the region’s leaders were already preparing to set up a protected bunker.

“Obviously, this case is one of the series of provocative measures organized by the FSB to fuel panic and anti-Ukrainian sentiments,” the MoD summed up.

The intelligence adds that the masterminds of provocations are aiming to justify the war on the territory of Ukraine or involve in hostilities the Transnistrian region  as a territory with a certain mobilization reserve or a springboard from which Russian troops could also attack Ukrainian territory.

    Background

Russian propaganda media and the authorities of unrecognized Transnistria reported on April 25 that the headquarters of the so-called Ministry of State Security in Tiraspol had been fired at with grenade launchers. Photos have been posted on social networks showing grenade launcher tubes and the aftermath of shelling.

The so-called Transnistrian Interior Ministry later reported that the blasts occurred at about 5 p.m. No casualties were reported.

Earlier, Ukraine’s military intelligence said that Russian special services were planning, in particular in their own country, a series of terrorist attacks to blow up households, hospitals, and schools to sow anti-Ukrainian sentiment. Transnistria is controlled by Russian troops.

It is also worth recalling that on April 22, the Russian military command announced the start of the second phase of the war, during which they will try to completely capture Donetsk and Luhansk regions, as well as annex southern Ukraine to join the unrecognized Transnistria.
