On Sunday, April 10, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine visited Chernihiv, where he and the clergy conducted a divine liturgy at St. Catherine’s Church.
This was announced by the head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration, Viacheslav Chaus, on his Facebook page.
“To share the joy of common prayer and worship with the faithful here,” the Metropolitan said, commenting on the purpose of his visit to Chernihiv on his social media page.
“After terrible weeks of siege by Russian troops, daily shelling and bombardment, perhaps it’s not final peace that is returning to this ancient and glorious city and the entire Siversky area – because an embittered and insidious enemy remains in proximity – but freedom. Chernihiv paid the terrible price of hundreds of lives taken by Russian murderers, the price of great destruction and suffering, for preserving its freedom. But the victory of the Chernihiv defenders and inhabitants, who bravely defended this princely and Cossack city, saved many more lives, stopped the onslaught of the enemy horde in its advance to the capital, broke the Kremlin’s plan to quickly destroy our statehood,” Epifaniy wrote.
