President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia, which directed their tank fire at the Zaporizhia NPP on the night of Friday, March 4, has become the only country in the world in history of mankind that actually fired on a nuclear facility.
“No country, except Russia, has ever fired on nuclear power units. This is the first time! This is the first time in our history, in the history of mankind, that a terrorist state has resorted to nuclear terror. We remember that Russian propagandists threatened to cover the world with nuclear dust, we do remember. Now this isn’t just a threat. Now this is reality,” the president said in an urgent address in the early hours of Friday.
Zelensky noted that it remained unclear how the fire at the station would end, whether there would be an explosion or not, as it was impossible to calculate all odds.
“But our guys have always kept the nuclear power plant safe, so that there were no provocations, so that no one could come to the station, no one could capture it, mine it, and then blackmail the whole world with a nuclear catastrophe,” he said.
The president called for an urgent response from the world community and stressed the need to stop the Russian military immediately.
Zelensky also said that the Ukrainian side had already contacted partners, and he had talked with the presidents of various countries, the prime minister of the United Kingdom, and the IAEA chief on the shelling of ZNPP.
