The Ukrainian authorities are calling on the European Union to allow Ukraine’s immediate accession under a special procedure.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about this in a video address, posted on Telegram.
“Europeans are aware that our soldiers are fighting for our nation, for the whole of Europe, for peace in all EU member states, for the lives of our children, for equality, and for democracy. This gives us full right to do as follows: we appeal to the European Union for Ukraine’s immediate accession under a new special procedure,” Zelensky said.
He added that he was grateful to the partners for their unprecedented support for Ukraine, in particular, for the decision to supply Ukraine with weapons and other means.
The president noted that Ukraine’s goal is to be together with Europeans and, most importantly, to be equal. The president is convinced that Ukraine deserves this, which is both fair and possible.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen earlier said the European Union was willing to see Ukraine as its part, adding that this would initially happen over time.
