A fire broke out in the icon-painting workshop on the premises of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in Ukraine’s capital Thursday afternoon.
As the fire spread to the roof of the affected two-storey building belonging to the monastery, the State Emergency Service deployed 13 firefighting crews to tackle the flames.
Three people were injured in the accident, one of whom reportedly jumped off the window, according to RFE/RL.
The fire was put out in about an hour, the reports read.
At the same time, the event was also marked by an incident involving an ROCinU priest and a journalist. As the media crew were shooting a report from the emergency scene, the cleric snatched the journalist’s phone, saying it was prohibited to film the fire.
The priest eventually returned the phone only after a long and heated altercation and the reporter’s warning that he would call the police to intervene.
