    Ukraine opens probe into Russian national who promoted service in Russian army among Crimea minors

    Ukraine’s Office of the Prosecutor General has opened a criminal proceeding targeting the so-called head of the Russian YunArmy (Youth Army NGO) regional headquarters in Sevastopol for promoting service with the Russian military among local children.

    That’s according to the Office of the Prosecutor General’s press service.

    According to the inquiry, in 2016, the suspect, serving as head of the regional headquarters of the Russian YunArmy in Sevastopol, set up and circulated propaganda promoting service with the Russian army among underage audiences.

    The Office of the Prosecutor General points out that the culprit violated the laws and customs of war as propaganda aimed at ensuring voluntary enlistment of civilians in the army ranks was prohibited by the 1949 Convention for the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

    Currently, the Office of the Prosecutor General has filed an indictment against “the head of the regional headquarters of the YunArmy under Part 1 Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

    If convicted by court, the suspect will face eight to 12 years in prison.
