Poll: 61% of Ukrainians believe in God, 20% – in spirit or force, and 5% – in karma

In Ukraine, 21% of the adult population believes that religion is right when in conflict with science, while 78.8% think otherwise.

This is evidenced by a survey run by the Center for Research of Society under the National Public Television and Radio Company, Media Sapiens reports.

“31% of believers and 6% of non-believers support the statement: ‘When science and religion are in conflict, religion is always right,’ while 69% of believers and 94% of non-believers oppose it,” the statement said.

In addition, 61% of adult Ukrainians believe in God, 20% – in spirit or force, 5% – in karma, 1% in reincarnation, and 13% believe that there is no God, spirit or life force.

At the same time, 30% of younger people aged 18-29 believe that it is impossible to be a religious scientist. In the age group 65+, this figure is only 5%.

The survey was conducted from 13 to 22 September 2021 by CATI (computer-assisted telephone interviews).

The sample is representative by regions and four age groups (18-29, 30-44, 45-64, and 65+). In total, the Center for the Study of Society ran 630 interviews.
