Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy, has commented on the OCU’s stance toward Pope Francis’ visit to Ukraine.
“We are positive toward it. After all, why should we oppose it if Christians, on the contrary, should unite in love, meet, communicate, instead of being enemies,” Metropolitan Epifaniy said during his trip to Ivano-Frankivsk, RISU reports.
The top cleric also recalled that, when Pope John Paul II visited Ukraine, it was only the Moscow Patriarchate that opposed the visit, while the Ukrainian Church welcomed it.
“Now we’re also living in such realities when the enemy opposes such things because we are in a state of hybrid war and it’s not only the war in eastern Ukraine, but also an information confrontation in the country, where the enemy is trying to counter everything that’s beneficial for Ukraine,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.
