Ukraine’s Ambassador reacts to Poland’s top Orthodox cleric greeting Kirill

“This letter was written by Poland’s enemies,” the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland, Vasyl Zvarych, stated, commenting on the greetings sent by Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw to the head of the Moscow Patriarchate, Kirill (Gundyaev).

The greeting address, in which Sawa congratulates Gundyaev on his enthronement anniversary, says that “the enemy of faith does not like church stability, he is trying to destroy it. What happened in Ukraine clearly testifies to this. However, God’s power is great, it is invincible,” reports Liga.net.

“It’s really a shame and disgrace. This letter was written by Poland’s enemies. Unbelievable! The only thing I agree with is that “God’s power is great, it is invincible.” But God is on the side of Ukraine, which is suffering from Russian barbarism. With Christ Almighty, we will overcome this hell!” the ambassador wrote.

Sawa’s letter also sparked criticism in church circles in Poland. The Ekumenizm.pl portal, which posted the news about the letter, accompanied it with an editorial comment, which states that “Kirill and his Russian Orthodox Church supported Vladimir Putin’s deadly machine of destruction from the very beginning of the invasion of Ukraine. Looting and rape, constant shelling of Ukraine are for Kirill and his organization a manifestation of the fight against the decline of the West and an element of metaphysical struggle. In this context, Kirill is not so much an involuntary executor of Putin’s will but a zealous assistant, a bishop of the ideological front, which theologically justifies the invasion of Ukraine.”
