Epifaniy in Berlin: “They said we’d lose within a few days but we have been fighting for more than three months – and we will continue to fight”

Speaking in Berlin, Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine touched upon the Russian-Ukrainian war. He noted that the Ukrainian people have a strong spirit and will to fight. The Metropolitan also called for joint efforts to stop the evil of Russian aggression so that this aggression does not move further into Europe.

That’s according to the press service of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the Spiritual Front reports.

“They said we’d lose within a few days but we have been fighting for more than three months – and we will continue to fight. After all, we know what to expect from Russian occupation – the whole territory that Putin will seize will become another ‘Bucha,’ a “blood land”. That is why we are asking for all possible help from the democratic world in general and from the European Union and Germany in particular. The more help is provided and the sooner it arrives, the sooner we will be able to repulse the aggressor and regain sovereignty over our territory,” said the head of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

Epifaniy added that he, like all religious figures, asks believers of all denominations to pray because prayer is really important.

“We are grateful for the humanitarian aid, for financial aid, and care for our refugees. But we also support Ukraine’s request for more assistance through increased sanctions and weapons. We completely reject the logic of ‘appeasement’ when someone offers to ‘cede’ some territory to Putin in exchange for a promise of peace. Such logic never leads to peace! The experience of the ‘Munich Conspiracy,’ when Hitler was given the Sudetenland in exchange for a promise of peace, shows that the aggressor’s appetite for victory is only growing. Especially since there are no uninhabited territories in Ukraine. People live on all lands. Are we being offered to hand over our citizens to the totalitarian rule of Russia? Such an approach is absolutely unacceptable in the modern world,” said Metropolitan Epifaniy.

The OCU’s top hierarchnoted that he wanted to show support for Ukraine’s application for EU membership candidate status and blessed this good cause.
