After training, volunteers from Belgium set to be deployed to help Ukraine repel Russian aggression

The first volunteers who expressed their will to help protect Ukraine from Russian aggression and appealed to the Ukrainian Embassy in Belgium to this end have already left for Ukraine, where they will undergo appropriate training and join the ranks of the country’s defenders.

This was announced by Second Secretary of the Embassy in the Kingdom of Belgium, Vladyslav Lytiaha, Ukrinform reports.

“As of today, 84 people have expressed their will to defend Ukraine from Russian aggression. Among them are not only Belgian citizens, but also Italians, French, Moroccans, people from Latvia, Georgia, Poland, and even Brazil. There are also Ukrainian-born volunteers, but they mostly travel home unassisted. Of these 84 people, 39 have already been interviewed and are deemed to meet the necessary criteria. We’re organizing their transfer by road. Earlier, eight volunteers were sent to Ukraine and today, another five are departing,” Lytiaha said.

According to the official, the vast majority of men who apply to the embassy and offer assistance in defending Ukraine have some military “background”. Each applicant is assessed individually to look into their combat readiness and paperwork.

After that, they all arrive at the Polish border with Ukraine, where they are already in contact with the Ukrainian military, which gives them the opportunity to undergo all necessary training, which is mandated before they are allowed to move to the front line.

“In the first days since the war started, the embassy appealed for humanitarian, military, and medical aid. A humanitarian hub was set up in the embassy, where everyone could bring everything that is needed. As of now, we have moved the hub to the Brussels Expo Center, as the embassy building is completely overflowed with humanitarian aid. We could no longer store it, although we were sending huge trucks to Ukraine every day,” the Ukrainian diplomat added.

As reported, the fightforua.org website is being launched in Ukraine, which will contain all the necessary information for foreigners, who are willing to join the International Defense Legion of Ukraine.
