An incident was observed in Slovakia’s main legislative body, in the epicenter of which was one of the state symbols of Ukraine, the national flag.

The altercation in parliament came against the background of discussions on a defense deal with the United States that would allow America to use Slovakia’s airports.
Lawmakers with the pro-Russian Party “Our Slovakia” (LSNS), Andrej Medvecky and Peter Krupa, stood over the speaker’s rostrum, hoisting a Slovakian flag and blocking the address.
Deputies with the Liberal Party for Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) Jana Bitto Ciganikova and Miroslav Ziak reacted to this by unfurling the Ukrainian flag at the rostrum.
Medvecky then started pouring water on Ziak and over the Ukrainian flag, before Medvecky’s party colleagues Marek Kotleba and Stanislav Mizik snatched the Ukrainian banner from Ziak.
After the parliament meeting, Miroslav Ziak made a statement to the press, sayin he was filing a lawsuit over the theft of the Ukrainian flag.
*Our Slovakia Party (LSNS) is an openly pro-Russian organization. Its leader, Marian Kotleba, while being in the capacity of Banská Bystrica region’s governor, on January 31, 2014, personally penned an address to the-then President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, during the confrontation in the Maidan, comparing the Revolution of Dignity to terrorism.
