For Russians, war is “sacred”: Putin spox names topics banned for jokes

Censorship, bans, and restrictions continue to invade human rights in the Russian Federation. One of the latest statements by Dmitry Peskov, Spokesperson for the Russian president, who spoke of the topics that are strictly forbidden to joke about.

“You can’t joke about what’s sacred to the Russian nation. We cannot joke about war, about religion, about the very, very heroic but sensitive pages of our history. And you can and should joke about anything else, albeit elegantly,” CredoPress quoted Peskov as saying on RTVI on December 18.

The statement by one of the main talking heads of Putin’s regime was made in the context of the expulsion from Russia of a Belarusian stand-up comedian Idrak Mirzalidze, who, as claimed by Russian authorities, made statements in his gigs that allegedly incite hate and enmity towards Russians.

At the same time, Peskov did not explain how diametrically opposed phenomena, such as religion and war, fell into the category of “sacred” to Russians.

However, this has once again testified to the current course of the Russian government’s foreign policy.
