Children need to be baptized in the first five months of life, otherwise their parents commit a sin, as per church publicist and ROC Archpriest Maksim (Pervozvansky).
That’s according to Moyo-online.
“There is no common rule about the age of baptism in Orthodoxy. Over the last millennium, the practice has been established of baptizing children at an early age, so as not to leave them out of the sacraments, further communion, and the opportunity to pray for them in the liturgy,” the priest told RIA Novosti, then moving on to intimidation.
“If a child is not baptized without a valid reason for up to five months, it is considered a sin by their parents,” he said, contradicting his own statement on “no common rule.”
At the end of his interview, the cleric acknowledged that there is a different trend is being observed in modern society.
“While being believers, parents postpone the baptism of their child until the age of 10-12. This is done to prepare them for an important decision in their life. As time passes, people often face moments of crisis: they can become atheists or change their faith,” said ROC Archpriest Maksim (Pervozvansky).
