All church events in Russia on the occasion of Christmas, including those with the president’s personal participation, were permeated with militarism, the cult of Vladimir Putin, justification of the war against Ukraine, and propaganda of hatred.
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.
“The sermons by the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev), boiled down to several propaganda narratives: Russia walks a special civilizational path, for which it is hated and ‘beaten’; the West is completely sinful, there is a total ‘moral collapse’; we need to pray for ‘Orthodox President Putin’ and the Russian army,” the report says.
“The ROC, which is completely subordinate to the Kremlin, has long had nothing to do with Christianity in general and Orthodoxy in particular. It only serves as a tool for ideological support and justification of war,” the CCD emphasized.
