Metropolitan Epifaniy: Ukrainian vyshyvanka symbol of will, indomitability in times of war

Ukrainians like it – because it is ours, it’s native, authentic, and special. We wear vyshyvanka with a certain spiritual awe and love, with pride and respect – for us it is a symbol of the Ukrainian nation, our glorious family, our ancient traditions, and our present.

This was reported on Facebook by the Primate of the OCU, Metropolitan Epifaniy, on Vyshyvanka Day.

“Each pattern, color, each thread contains its own story and mood. Nowadays, during the war, for us, the vyshyvanka is a special symbol of our freedom, will, strength, and indomitability. Take a closer look: even a military pixel pattern reminds us of a kind of embroidery, which imprints our aspirations for freedom and independence, courage and heroism, faith and hope for victory.

Happy Vyshyvanka Day to all Ukrainians! May our dear Ukraine always live in your hearts. And may the vyshyvanka – this unique, special symbol of Ukrainians – unites all of us for the Ukrainian victory, so dreamed of, long-awaited, suffered, begged for, and just!” he noted.
