Today, February 16, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, convened in the main church of the monastery of St. George in Old Cairo, deprived Metropolitan Konstantin of Zarai (Ostrovsky) of the rank of “exarch” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa. In this way, the Church of Alexandria expressed its rejection of the anti-Orthodox actions being undertaken by the ROC.
This is reported by nyxthimeron.com.
In October 2023, the Moscow Patriarchate appointed Metropolitan Konstantin of Zaraysk as “exarch”, who began his anti-canonical – and therefore, dirty – work within the canonical jurisdiction of another Church, namely in the missionary field of the Alexandria Patriarchate instead of Metropolitan Leonid (Gorbachev).
The former first “exarch” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa, Metropolitan Leonid (Gorbachev) of Klin, has already been deposed by the Patriarchate of Alexandria, as an instrument of the Moscow Patriarchate’s illegal invasion of Africa. He was also removed by the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church from the position of “exarch” of the Russian Orthodox Church in Africa and was assigned “to rest”. Now the Church Court hearing is to be held in his case.
Earlier it was announced that on February 16, the Synod of the Church of Alexandria should discuss the issue of the Russian Orthodox Church’s invasion of Africa.
Each Synodal hierarch of the Church of Alexandria is obliged during the meeting to create and submit to the Synod secretariat a note, which will record the extent of the problem of the Russian schism in his diocese at this time.
In addition, the note must contain data on every clergyman, African, Russian or else, who entered his diocese, acted uncanonically, or joined the so-called “Russian Exarchate of Africa”. Also, information about the immovable assets of the church diocese, which was under threat or illegally seized by the authorities of the “Russian Exarchate of Africa”, shall be recorded in detail.
Thus, the note will record how all previous actions were considered within the diocese.
