Archbishop Sviatoslav: Russia’s “church revival” soap bubble

Today we feel that the process of de-Christianization of Russia is underway, perhaps due to the fact that the Russian Orthodox Church is losing its religious authority.

The Head of the UGCC, Sviatoslav Shevchuk, told this in an interview with Ukrainian Pravda, RISU writes.

“For example, official data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia: how many Russians took part in Christmas services? About 1%.

If you compare how many Russians have come to churches for Christmas in the last three years, then every year there are a million fewer,” said the Primate.

What does it mean? That the percentage of practicing Christians is tiny. That is, the lack of true ecclesiasticism, according to Russian state statistics, shows the effect of powerful de-Christianization.

What the Russian Orthodox Church and Russia tried to present as a great revival of the church in independent Russia, we see that it is some kind of soap bubble,” he said.

The head of the UGCC also noted that the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill has no right to say that Ukrainians, Russians, and Belarusians are one people.

“In my opinion, there is no Christian content in those statements. This statement is purely geopolitical in nature and content.

Why should the Patriarch of Moscow talk about who is a people and who is not a people? This is not his competence. These are things that go beyond the functions of pastors,” Patriarch Sviatoslav of the UGCC emphasized in the interview.
