Seminarians and faculty of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary left the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. This was reported to Channel 5 by the acting director of the Reserve.
Representatives of the Moscow Patriarchate used to occupy four buildings. Two of them have already been vacated. Meanwhile, the belongings of UOC MP representatives are being taken out of another one. The Reserve says that monks will reside in these buildings. Earlier, the court sided with the Reserve and confirmed that the UOC MP must return the property to the state.
As Channel 5 learned, the seminarians moved from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra to the Holosiiv Monastery
It is known that the students started their academic year on Tuesday.
“We see that all the stuff and equipment that were there have been taken away. And two buildings are actually completely vacated. In fact, the academy and the seminary occupied four buildings,” said acting director general of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, Maksym Ostapenko.
According to the CEO, monks will live in part of the buildings that have already been vacated by the seminarians. The rest will be sealed and closed for the time being. However, legal formalities stand in the way of monastic life continuing in the shrine because after the government severed the lease agreement with the Moscow Patriarchate, another one is yet to be signed, on which the government is currently working.
