Poland intends to present the idea and plan of introducing a peacekeeping mission on the territory of Ukraine. According to the speaker of the Polish Parliament, Piotr Mueller, this will be done at the next summit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, Charter’97% writes, citing Polish media.
The official noted that there is now a restrained mood in Europe as regards assessing the ongoing war in Ukraine. However, consistent pressure may help such a peacekeeping mission to be launched soon.
“This is not a mission that would come into direct confrontation with Russia, but be located in areas where direct hostilities are not yet underway to give a clear signal of readiness to confront war,” Mueller said.
At the same time, the Speaker of the Polish Parliament harbors no hope for an easy solution to the issue. However, he is convinced that today it is necessary to work out different options for implementing such a decision.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister of Poland and leader of the ruling Law and Justice Party Jaroslaw Kaczynski during his latest Kyiv visit called for a NATO peacekeeping mission to be deployed in Ukraine.
Ukraine has repeatedly asked NATO to help the country protect its sky from Russian bombs and missiles. So far, the NATO Command has categorically rejected the possibility of the allied forces shutting down the sky over Ukraine. However, after the war approached NATO’s eastern borders, the Alliance decided to increase its military contingent in the bloc’s eastern flank.
