Theologian Kirill Govorun addressed the issue in his post.
“Putinization of the Church has become a major threat to pan-Orthodox unity. Its de-Putinization is a necessary condition for the restoration of such unity. Putinism is a lie that replaces Christ with the idols of the state, civilization, values, and so on. This lie must be subjected to anathema by the church. We can start with its condemnation by the Pentarchy,” Govorun said.
It should be recalled that instead of condemning the sin of war, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church congratulated Putin on Defender of the Fatherland Day. He also spoke about the “common centuries-old history” of Ukraine and Russia. He said the Russian military had “chosen the right path” and reiterated support for Putin’s aggression. The Russian Orthodox Church compared Russia’s attack on Ukraine to “surgical intervention.”
The head of the OCU said that the spirit of the antichrist lives in the leader of Russia.
