“Obviously, we want all Christians to be united,” His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk speaks of plan to merge OCU, UGCC

There are no secret talks underway on the unification of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

The head of the UGCC, the Supreme Archbishop Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) of Kyiv and Halych, spoke about this on Channel 5.

“No secret talks. Everything is sincere, open, and transparent. We don’t yet see any opportunities for rapid unification, but we do see opportunities to unite in some concrete matters, for the good of our people and our Ukrainian state. Obviously, we want all Christians to be united,” Channel 5 quoted His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) as saying.

“We have a plan, an invitation, to move toward unification of the once united, but now divided Kyiv Church, but this has nothing to do with any behind-the-scenes agreements. I don’t think it is necessary to put forward or substantiate any conspiracy theories here,” the hierarch stressed.
