Ecumenical Patriarch successfully undergoes stent placement in U.S. hospital

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew was admitted to the Mount Sinai Hospital on November 3 where an angiogram (the study of blood vessels’ condition) was performed that confirmed the patriarch needed a stent, ekklisiaonline.gr reported.

It was successfully placed later that day, as per the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America.

According to medics, the Ecumenical Patriarch is in satisfactory condition, and is expected to be discharged from the hospital on Thursday.

Bartholomew, 81, was hospitalized for the second time during his visit to the United States. On October 24, he felt unwell after a long flight to the United States and amid a busy schedule of the visit. Doctors advised that the patriarch be examined and have some rest.

Following the stent placement, Bartholomew’s departure from the United States, earlier scheduled for November 3, is therefore being delayed.
