OCU celebrates 5th anniversary of obtaining Tomos of autocephaly

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine is marking the 5th anniversary of receiving the Tomos of autocephaly.

This was announced by the Primate of the OCU, Metropolitan Epifaniy.

“Exactly five years ago, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed the Tomos of Autocephaly for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. “The pious Ukrainian people have been waiting for this blessed day for seven centuries,” he said, recalling the words of Patriarch Bartholomew.

The next day, January 6, this historical document was brought to Kyiv. “From now on, according to the Revised Julian calendar, our anniversary of receiving the Tomos is marked by the day of the Holy Epiphany. And in this we see the symbolism of the emergence of our independent local Church to the Ukrainian people,” said the head of the OCU.

Metropolitan Epifaniy thanked God for the opportunity to restore justice and have Ukraine’s own autocephalous church. “Which we, with God’s help, are building up, reaffirming, and strengthening in unity with the family of Ecumenical Orthodoxy,” he added.
