Russian drone attacks temple in Kherson region

Around 12:00 on Sunday, September 22, Russian invaders launched an attack on the village of Sadove in Kherson region, using several drones carrying an explosive payload. One of the drones targeted the church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, run by the UOC (in unity with the Moscow Patriarchate).

According to a report posted by the Kherson Diocese, as a result of the incident, the church building totally burned down. Fortunately, no parishioners were injured.

It is noteworthy that the official website of the diocese stops short of reporting who exactly targeted the church while other sources widely reported that the temple was attacked by the Russians.

    Editorial comment:

The absence on the UOC (MP) Kherson diocese website of a direct mention of the responsibility of the Russian military for the attack looks like an apparent attempt to avoid open criticism of the Russian invasion force. Such silence is unacceptable as it can be perceived as concealing the truth and endorsing the aggressor, which undermines the credibility of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP) amid war.

It should be recalled that the police are conducting an inspection after the incident involving believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP) that occurred outside a military draft office in the town of Khust.

As reported earlier, the Banchenskyi monastery of the UOC (MP) is collecting aid for Romania flood victims.
