Icons painted on Mount Athos for Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

On September 18, a solemn Divine Liturgy was held in the main church of the Xenophonthos Monastery, dedicated to the holy great martyr George the Victorious. The vicar of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Avraamiy, together with the abbot of the monastery Geronda Oleksiy and the clergy, prayed for the defenders of Ukraine, who are fighting against Russian aggression, as well as for a just peace.

As the press service of the OCU monastery informs, a year ago philanthropist Yurii Matchuk decided to donate icons for the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. With the blessing of Metropolitan Epifaniy, they were painted on the holy Mount Athos, in the Xenophonthos Monastery, where the Tomos of autocephaly had previously been created.

After the liturgy, Bishop Avraamii and Geronda Oleksiy offered a prayer of thanksgiving before the holy icons. Geronda emphasized the importance of the event as Ukraine is facing the “Russian world” that brought suffering and death.

“We sincerely believe that through the holy icons, the All-Merciful Lord will extend His mercy to the long-suffering Ukrainian people and the long-awaited just peace will come to our Ukrainian land,” the monastery said.

It should be recalled that Bishop Avraamiy spoke about the meeting with the abbot of the Xenophonthos Monastery on Mount Athos.
