The Holy Synod of the ROC, held in Moscow on May 30, decided to sever the Eucharistic communication with the Hierarchy of the Bulgarian Church, who entered into church communication with representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
That’s according to the ROC press service.
On May 19, 2024, Patriarch of Constantinople, Bartholomew, led the Liturgy in Istanbul in Istanbul, which was attended by representatives of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine alongside Bulgarian church clerics.
The Synod “expressed deep sorrow” due to the fact that five Bulgarian bishops “participated in cooperation with representatives of one of the Ukrainian schismatic groups, which caused serious harm to relations between Russian and Bulgarian Orthodox churches.”
The ROC Synod stated the impossibility of cooperation with the mentioned hierarchs who contributed to “communication with the schismatics”.
At the same time, the Synod noted that “the Patriarchate of Constantinople continues to take actions aimed at deepening the division in Orthodoxy.”
