Doctor of Philosophy Oleksandr Brodetsky in a comment to molbuk.ua called the merger of three OCU dioceses in Bukovyna a wise and mature step.
The transition period after the acquisition of autocephaly is over, and now the OCU dioceses are merging to become stronger and more powerful. This will take away from the propagandists with the UOC (MP) the rhetoric about discord in the OCU.
Of course, some friction between different influence groups may persist, but it is important that the common good prevails over individual ambitions.
“I think certain frictions between different groups of influence within the structures of the OCU will persist. But it is important that when it comes to matters of principle, it is not individual ambitions that prevail but the common good. So this is definitely a positive thing. It would be nice if similar decisions regarding OCU dioceses were adopted this year in all other regions,” said the religious scholar.
It should be recalled that the Holy Synod of the OCU merged the Chernivtsi-Kytsman, Chernivtsi-Khotyn and Chernivtsi dioceses into a single Chernivtsi Diocese.
Archbishop Onufriy (Havruk) became the titular Archbishop of Kytsman.
Bishop Feohnost (Bodoriak) now heads the Chernivtsi Diocese.
Archbishop Herman (Semanchuk) became the archbishop of Kamianets-Podilskyi.
