The Russians continue to oppress religious communities in the temporarily occupied territories.

The enemy forcibly annexes the religious communities of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP), making them part of the Russian Orthodox Church. The priests who refuse to cooperate with the enemy are replaced by seconded clerics from the Russian Orthodox Church. In addition, representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church also hold positions in other church communities in the occupied areas, for example, in captured OCU churches. At the same time, the so-called “priests” from the ROC are engaged in spying activities in the temporarily occupied territories, collecting personal data of patriotic parishioners and clergy. They forward this intelligence to the Russian special services.
The Center emphasizes that all invaders will be held accountable for their crimes against the Ukrainian people, regardless of whether they wear a suit, cassock, or military uniform.
Collaborative activity of the UOC MP
The Verkhovna Rada collected the necessary number of signatures to consider the issue of banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP). The SBU has been exposing UOC MP priests who aid and abet the enemy.
In particular, the Metropolitan Feodosiy of the Cherkasy Diocese, who incited religious enmity while under house arrest pending probe into his previous charges, was charged additionally – this time for denying Russia’s armed aggression and spreading calls for inter-religious enmity.
In total, 68 clerics from the UOC (MP), including 14 metropolitans, were brought to justice.
