Moscow Patriarch Kirill (Gundyaev) is asking for a “Christmas truce” at the front line from 12:00 on January 6 to midnight on January 7. The statement looks especially cynical against the background of his previous calls to the Russians to fight against Ukraine, and sermons where he claimed the deaths in the war against Ukraine supposedly “washes away” Russians’ sins.
It should be noted that in his request for “truce”, published by the official website of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill did not refer to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a war. He continues to consider it an “internecine conflict.”
“I, Kirill, the Patriarch of Moscow…, appeal to all parties involved in the ‘internecine conflict’ to cease fire and establish a Christmas truce from 12:00 on January 6 to midnight on January 7 so that Orthodox people can attend services,” the statement said.
It should be recalled that earlier, Moscow Patriarch Kirill asked to be more careful in his statements about the UOC (MP). He also allocated 170 million roubles for the construction of a temple in honor of the Soviet military.
