    Chief Catholic chaplain of US Armed Forces on solidarity visit to Ukraine

    On December 27-31, the president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the United States, the chief Catholic military chaplain of the United States Armed Forces, Archbishop Timothy Broglio, is visiting Ukraine.

    On Friday, December 30, he held a meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, state and religious figures, military chaplains, and civil leaders, the State Service for Ethnic Policies and Freedom of Conscience reported.

    During a meeting with the head of the Service, Viktor Yelenskyi, Broglio emphasized his country’s solidarity with Ukraine, which is repelling the Russian invasion, and focused on a number of issues that are of particular interest to the Catholic Church in the USA in its relations with the people of Ukraine. Among them are the issue of strengthening international solidarity with the people of Ukraine, assistance to Ukrainians remaining in the occupied territory and in the war zone, the issue of religious freedom, and the main challenges of military chaplaincy.

    During the meeting, specific ways of establishing cooperation between state bodies and Churches of Ukraine and the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the USA were outlined.
