The basis of Russian national identity “was and remains the succession of generations, loyalty to traditions, high spiritual and moral guidelines.”
This was emphasized by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who spoke at a meeting of the Russian “Victory” committee in video conference mode, Russian media reports.
Russia put “a firm damper on the attempts of a number of countries to undermine its sovereignty and statehood,” Putin added.
“Attempts of a number of countries to rewrite and reface world history are becoming more and more aggressive and, by and large, have an obvious goal in relation to our society at least: to divide us, deprive us of landmarks, ultimately weaken Russia, and affect its sovereignty – in fact, to undermine sovereignty,” Putin said
It is from the “planting of myths and distortion of history” that the “destabilization of countries and peoples” begins, he continued.
“Such a scenario, as we can see, has been tested in some countries, including Ukraine, as well as in a number of other states. There were attempts to do the same with our country, with Russia. But, as I already said, we put a damper on them in time and firmly enough to defend our interests,” Putin said.
