In the case of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, the Vatican is ready to act as a mediator, offering its territory as a neutral venue for their holding.
That’s according to Glavcom referring to La Stampa.
As the publication notes, the Vatican offers to involve other parties in the talks, including the USA and European Union.
It is noted that the Vatican’s proposal became known after the meeting of Pope Francis with French President Emmanuel Macron on October 24.
Earlier, Pope Francis said that he has great respect for the Russian people and “Russian humanism.» Oksana Markarova, Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United States, commentd on these statements, saying that Francis might have not read Dostoyevsky too attentively.
