Citizens of 55 countries fighting for Ukraine as part of Int’l Legion

Nationals of 55 countries have voluntarily joined the International Defense Legion of Ukraine.

This was stated during a briefing at Media Center Ukraine – UKRINFORM by the Legion’s spokesman Damien Magrou, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

“We have people from 55 countries. They represent all parts of the world. All continents. Even such distant countries as Brazil, South Korea, and Australia,” he said, noting that the majority of legionnaires today are citizens of the United States, Great Britain, Poland, and Canada. Also among the Legion’s soldiers are many from the Baltic and Nordic nations, including Finland.

Damien Magru stressed that all members of the legion have signed official contracts and receive financial support, ammunition, and weapons from the Ukrainian government on a par with Ukrainian servicemen. And this, from the point of view of military law, distinguishes them from mercenaries, including those with Russia’s notorious Wagner PMC, who are fighting on the side of the occupying forces.
