New fake by Russian propaganda: war against Ukraine allegedly supported by people in different countries

The Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine warns of another information manipulation the enemy is circulating in the media space, trying to create the false impression that the Russian war against Ukraine is allegedly supported by peoples of different countries.

Kremlin media are spreading a report with the headline “A rally in support of Russia took place in New York.”

“Protesters carried posters saying ‘Russia is not our enemy! NATO and the Ukrainian Nazis are our enemies!’ the statement says.

This is manipulation, the anti-propaganda watchdog reports, explaining that:

    • The report has no reference to the original source – “the rally was reported by local media”
    • Only a single photo with a caption is being spun, showing a small group of five people in an unknown location (thee holding posters and another one – symbols of the unrecognized “republics” in Ukraine’s east)
    • A monitoring effort exposed that back on February 27, Russian propaganda media had already offered similar news about a “rally” in New York, that time – without providing a photo from the scene

This information can be used to destabilize the situation in Ukraine to raise the level of frustration among the Ukrainian population, the Center stressed.
