Close to Kyivites’ suffering: Pope Francis responds to Vitaliy Klitschko’s letter

His Holiness Pope Francis received a letter from Vitali Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv, who invited him to visit the capital of Ukraine. In the letter, the mayor also called the Pope to show compassion and stand with the Ukrainian people, jointly spreading the call for peace.

This was reported by the UGCC Information Department.

In response, the Holy Father Francis assured that he relates to the suffering of Kyivites and reiterated that there are no strategic reasons to justify the killing of children, innocent and unarmed civilians in Ukraine.

Pope Francis also reaffirmed the call he had made last Sunday in the Angelus: “There are no strategic reasons for the barbarism of killing children, innocent and unarmed civilians to justify it: the only thing you need to do is stop the unacceptable armed aggression before it turns cities into cemeteries.”
