The number of children who fled the war in Ukraine has exceeded 1 million. Most of these children were taken by their mothers and other relatives to Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, and Romania.
This was reported by UNICEF.
“The number of children on the move is staggering, an indication of how desperate the situation for children and families in Ukraine has become,” said UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia Afshan Khan. “Children are leaving everything they know behind in search of safety. This is heart-breaking.”
So far, six trucks carrying almost 70 tonnes of goods have arrived in Ukraine. Supplies include personal protective equipment and medical, surgical, and obstetric kits.
Working with partners, the UNICEF team in Ukraine will be delivering medical supplies to 22 hospitals in five different conflict-affected areas of Ukraine for 20,000 children and mothers.
From Copenhagen, another three trucks were dispatched, carrying essential supplies, such as early childhood development, recreational and hygiene kits.
