    Pope Francis appoints new Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine

    Pope Francis has appointed Reverend Msgr. Visvaldas Kulbokas, as a new Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine.

    That’s according to the Apostolic Nunciature in Ukraine.

    Msgr. Vsivaldas Kulbokas was born in Klaipeda, Lithuania, on May 14, 1975.

    He was ordained a priest on 19 July 1998, and incardinated in the archdiocese of Telšiai, Lithuania.

    He graduated in Theology.

    He entered the Holy See Diplomatic Service on July 1, 2004, and served in the Pontifical Representations in Lebanon, Netherlands, Russian Federation, as well as in the Section for Relations with States of the Secretariat of State. From 2020, he has been serving in the Apostolic Nunciature in Kenya.

    He knows English, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

    Thus, he became the sixth apostolic nuncio in the modern Ukrainian state.

    His predecessor, Archbishop Claudio Gugerotti, held the post from 2016 until July 2020, when he was transferred to another position.

    An Apostolic Nuncio serves as both Ambassador of the Vatican City State, headed by the Pope, and a representative of the Holy See, the seat of the Pope as an earthly head of the Catholic Church.
