In Mariupol, Russians exhuming bodies of civilians, buried in backyards

Russian troops have begun exhuming the bodies of civilians buried in the yards of residential buildings in the besieged Mariupol, the City Council said on April 15.

“Russian forces have begun the process of exhuming bodies that were previously buried in the yards of residential buildings. Moreover, the occupiers forbid proper burials of those they had killed. In each yard, they put their supervisor, who does not allow Mariupol residents to bury the bodies of their relatives or acquaintances,” the statement reads.

It is unknown why the exhumation is taking place and where the bodies will be taken.

The city council speculates that the Russians intend to burn the bodies in mobile crematoria to cover up their own crimes.

“But they will not succeed as the whole world is already recording multiple crimes committed by the Russian army in Mariupol. Every criminal will be held accountable!” the City Council claims.

It should be recalled that Gdansk will help rebuild Mariupol once the war is over. About 22,000 people are believed to have been killed in Mariupol.
