Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine has delivered a sermon on the miracle performed by Jesus Christ, who multiplied the loaves to feed 5,000 people.
The head of the OCU remarked that the miracle of bread multiplication reminds us that “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
“Those people who felt hunger and thirst for truth more than the physical hunger enjoyed the wonderful satiety. Because they gathered around Christ and listened to His sermon all day, not leaving Him for their own needs,” said the sermon, published on the OCU official website.
Metropolitan Epifaniy added that no one can completely neglect the material while living in this world.
“Even the Savior Himself, as the Son of Man, felt hunger and thirst, so He ate and drank. But the satisfaction of material needs should not be the main thing in our lives. The most important thing for us is to be saturated with the word of God, to be filled with the knowledge of truth. When we put spiritual needs, restoration of our unity with God in the first place, we will also have the things necessary in this world, because we will not be left out of God’s care even in simple and everyday things,” he stressed.
“So let the realization of this help us strengthen our faith, and then we will have from the Lord everything necessary for eternal life, as well as for temporary, both spiritual gifts and bread for today,” summed up Metropolitan Epifaniy.
