Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Kyrylo Budanov handed over to the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epifaniy, the recently rediscovered 19th-century icon of the Holy Trinity.
This was reported in the intelligence agency’s press service.
The relic had long been considered lost. Made in the style of classicism, the “Holy Trinity” was presumably produced in the workshop of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
“The preservation of the Ukrainian spiritual, cultural, and art heritage is of great importance, therefore we are honorably transferring the rediscovered relic to where it belongs, the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. May it continue to help all Ukrainian believers, as it has for centuries,” Budanov emphasized.
Metropolitan Epifaniy expressed gratitude for the present.
The two met on January 31. The meeting was also attended by the head of the Military Chaplaincy Service of the MoD Military Regional Directorate, Father Konstantin Kholodov, along with some military chaplains.
The military and clergy discussed the role of spiritual care for the Army.
