    OCU Primate celebrates liturgy in Transfiguration Cathedral on occasion of Most Holy Theotokos Nativity

    On the day of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, September 21, 2022, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine led the Divine Liturgy in the Stauropigium Savior and Transfiguration Cathedral in the capital’s Teremky district.

    Metropolitan Ioan of Cherkasy and Chyhyryn, Metropolitan Oleksandr of Pereyaslav and Vishneve, Bishop Lavrentiy of Luhansk and Starobilsk, Bishop Matviy of Volodymyr-Volynsky and Turiya, cathedral and invited clergy co-served with the head of the autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

    After the liturgy, Ihor Lysov, the head of the parish council of the cathedral, Hero of Ukraine Ihor Hordiychuk also prayed alongside a crowd of believers in attendance.

    After reading the Gospel, His Beatitude delivered the consecration of the sermon and offered a special prayer to the Lord at a time when the Motherland is in danger.

    During the service, prayers were heard for the soldiers who defend Ukraine, for the government, and people of Ukraine, and for the souls of all fallen defenders of the Motherland and civilians to rest in peace.

    At the end of the service, Metropolitan Epifaniy congratulated the community on the holiday and honored the Ukrainian athletes and coaches of the national diving and synchronized swimming teams with church awards.

    Metropolitan Oleksandr and the founder of the cathedral, Ihor Lysov, thanked the Primate for the archpastoral visit and presented him with an icon with a fragment of the relics of Saint John Chrysostom and a commemorative award.

    After the Divine Liturgy, a joint prayer for the soul of His Beatitude Bishop Volodymyr (Sabodan) to rest in peace was performed in front of the monument erected in his honor.
