“We need to help the 60 nations annexed by Russia to rise up” – Lech Walesa

You can protect yourself from Russia’s aggressive foreign policy by supporting the peoples it has enslaved.

This opinion has been expressed by the first president of democratic Poland, former leader of the anti-communist movement “Solidarity” Lech Walesa. He stated this in an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, Espreso reports.

“Even if Ukraine wins this war, in five years we will have the same thing, and in ten years we will see a new Putin,” he warned.

In order to avoid this scenario, “today we must force the change of this political system or organize an uprising of peoples,” suggests the former Polish president.

If there is no complete change of the political regime in Moscow, global security can only be ensured by dismembering modern Russia, which, according to Walesa, will still remain imperialistic.

“There are 60 nations that were annexed, as is being repeated today with Ukrainians. It is necessary to help these peoples to rise up. It is necessary either to change the political system of Russia, or to return it to a population of less than 50 million. Currently, 144 million people live in the Russian Federation,” Lech Walesa shared his vision.

At the same time, in his opinion, the West could have done this at the end of the 20th century.

“Russia had to be destroyed. But Gorbachev was too smart for that. At that time, we said to ourselves: “There was Stalin, Brezhnev, but Gorbachev is nice.” So we left them alone. Russia has been waiting for hard times, and now it wants to continue as it has been for centuries and move on with annexing peoples into its empire. Then it was our mistake. I wanted to do it differently, but I was not allowed,” the politician emphasized.
