“We do not leave our people behind”: Zelensky speaks with liberated Melitopol Mayor

On March 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke over the phone with Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov, who had been released from Russian captivity.

This was announced by Deputy Head of the President’s Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

The president noted that he was very pleased to hear the liberated mayor of Melitopol, who had been abducted the day before by the Russian occupiers. Ivan Fedorov thanked the president for making sure Ukraine did not leave him behind. To which Zelensky replied that “we do not leave our people behind.”

The mayor of Melitopol noted that he needs up to two days to recover, after which he will be ready to work to bring closer the day of Ukraine’s victory over the Russian invaders.

It should be recalled that Mayor of Melitopol Ivan Fedorov was released from captivity of the Russian occupiers.

On March 11, a group of 10 Russian occupiers abducted Ivan Fedorov. After that, the Russians appointed a new “mayor,” Halyna Danylchenko, a deputy of the Melitopol City Council with the Opposition Bloc.
