“Totally oblivious of Ukraine”: President’s Office reacts to Russia’s plans to reinstall Yanukovych

The Kremlin’s idea to make fugitive ex-President Viktor Yanukovych the next “President of Ukraine” speaks of Russia’s total ignorance of the real moods prevailing in Ukraine, the President’s Office is convinced.

Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the head of the President’s Office, said this in a comment to Ukrayinska Pravda.

“Several aspects are important in such an ‘enchanting’ story regarding Yanukovych’s arrival in Minsk. The first and key one: any mention of Yanukovych’s name as a kind of ‘opportunity’ once again shows us Russia’s total obliviousness of the real moods prevailing in Ukraine,” the comment says.

That’s a complete lack of understanding of what kind of country we are. The Russians have never had any objective analysis – hence such deadly decisions. Of the same type are propaganda stories about the ‘masses meeting Russian tanks with flowers.”

In fact, there are no, even isolated, “welcomings” – only hatred, the most brutal destruction of these very tanks and even mass attempts to stop armored vehicles by throwing themselves under them.

They mistakenly hoped that they would be treated well in a country that hates any invaders. Also, there’s this confidence among Russian elites that the army of hundreds of thousands of nationalists is marching the streets. In short, they don’t understand anything at all in Ukraine.

The second aspect of this strange story is that Yanukovych is an absolute “political corpse.” He is such an old outsider with a toxic reputation that the very mention of his name sounds even more defiant. Undoubtedly, it will provoke even greater rebuff.”

Details: He noted that the names of Putin’s crony Viktor Medvedchuk and another pro-Russian politician Yevgeny Muraev have the same effect. According to Podoliak, these people are “completely incompatible with the Ukrainian context.”

Background: According to intelligence sources, Yanukovych is currently in Minsk, while the Kremlin has him in mind as part of a special operation, according to Ukrainian intelligence.
