OCU responds to Alexander Lukashenko’s threats

The Orthodox Church of Ukraine has responded to the recent calls by the self-proclaimed leader of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko’s to bring Ukraine to what he calls “the bosom of true faith,” implying the Russian church’s sphere of influence.

Archbishop Yevstratiy (Zorya), Spokesman for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, addressed the issue on social media.

“In fact, statements by people like Lukashenko are a great recommendation for the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church. It would be strange if thieves praised us,” the cleric stressed.

At the same time, Bishop Yevstratiy predicted that once Lukashenko’s dictatorship is over, “the time will come in Belarus for the autocephaly of the Belarusian Church.”
